flight 2 by David De Souza Comment by David "Weather: The weather forecast on 18 Jan indicated that the conditions would be marginal for the flight to be conducted under the IFR. I also had discussions with the BoM frcstr 18th pm and 19th am, but no improvement was expected. In view of the marignal conditions and lack of weather reports for YCRG, I anticipated that the flight may well have to divert to YMAY in any case. On 18 Jan I indicated to Linda Stokes that the prospects of landing at YCRG were slim. In terms of minimising delay to their onward routine, we decided that YMAY represented the best chance of landing and incurring minimal delay. The current weather forecasts issued 19 Jan remained poor, with actual and forecast weather conditions at or sometimes below the IFR minima. The landing at YMAY was acomplished in weather at the minima so we were pretty lucky to get in at the first attempt. The return trip was fortunately uneventful but flown in IMC throughout but for the last 5 minutes!!" |
