Sue's Comments:
I felt very privileged to fly Gemma and her mother Belinda home to
Port Lincoln for the weekend. Whilst this was Gemma's 5th Angel Flight,
it was the first time she had flown with only one pilot and a female
at that. She was excited about that and enjoyed her flight in the
co-pilots seat, but couldn't wear the headphones because they hurt
her bald head.
Gemma is an extraordinary 6 year old, fighting cancer with unbelievable strength. To witness Gemma and her family's courage in the face of adversity humbled me. Gemma has an engaging personality, beautiful big blue eyes and a smile to charm everyone. She was so excited to be going home, it was great to be able to assist in such a small way to help make her life more bearable. It made me realise just how important family, home and getting out of the hospital environment, even for s short time, is for the psychological well being of ill people.
