MISSION 306 - BAMAGA / CAIRNS

Torres Strait Islander, Hassan Binawel, was in Cairns Base Hospital's ICU after a below-the-knee amputation. With complications such as infection and severe blood loss following surgery, he then faced an above knee amputation.

Angel Flight arranged the transportation of Hassan's children so they could be with him prior to and just after the second operation.

Hassan has been through a very difficult period, emotionally and physically and benefited immensely from the close support of his children, Shem [24] and twins Lawrence and Gayai [16].

Comment by Liz Clark
Indigenous Liaison Officer - Cairns Base Hospital

"Hassan had his operation late yesterday and it was a huge success.  His wife Mary said he came out of recovery laughing and having a joke with staff.  His spirits have been lifted enormously with having his children here. Thank you once again for all your assistance."
