Angel Flight Founder Bill Bristow inducted into Aviation Hall of Fame

Angel Flight Australia is proud to announce that its founder, Bill Bristow AM, has been formally inducted into the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame, recognising his remarkable contribution to aviation and community service.

Established in 2010, the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame honours those who have made enduring contributions to aviation and aerospace in Australia. Bill Bristow now joins an esteemed group of pioneers whose legacy continues to shape the nation’s aviation landscape.

A respected businessman and passionate pilot, Bill Bristow launched Angel Flight in April 2003 with a vision to harness the goodwill of volunteer pilots to help rural Australians access the medical care they need. The charity provides free non-emergency flights to those living in remote and regional areas who must travel to city centres for specialist treatment.

The initiative combined Bill’s love of flying with a profound commitment to helping others—values that have guided Angel Flight’s operations for over two decades. His efforts have seen more than 100,000 flights coordinated, connecting patients and their families with lifesaving medical services, regardless of distance or income.

In recognition of his humanitarian work, Bill was named the 2005 Queensland Australian of the Year and was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2009 for his service to rural and remote communities through Angel Flight and support of other charitable causes.

Angel Flight CEO Marjorie Pagani welcomed the announcement:

“Bill’s vision changed lives across Australia. His induction into the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to the legacy he has created—not only in the skies but in the hearts of the many thousands of people Angel Flight has helped.”

Bill Bristow’s induction highlights the vital role aviation can play in community connection and social impact, and his story continues to inspire both aviators and volunteers across the country.
