JPs in the Community Morayfield celebrates 20 years and raise $100,000 for Angel Flight

Justices of the Peace giving back in more ways than one

August 2023 marked 20 years of Justices of the Peace (JPs) in the community and JP Morayfield branch noted the occasion by celebrating its members at Morayfield Shopping Centre who have raised $100,000 for Angel Flight.

Justices of the Peace in the Community is a free volunteer-based service offered to the Queensland public to provide consistent and reliable witnessing of documents.

Since 2010, JPs of Morayfield have been raising funds for Angel Flight by asking for donations from the local shopping centre community.

They have proudly raised $100,000 for the not for profit who help rural Australian’s access medical care by offering free flights and road transport.

Former JPs of Morayfield member, Lindsay Bell who was also an Angel Flight driver or ‘Earth Angel’, instigated the fundraiser which has continued after his unfortunate passing.

Branch coordinator, Horrie Hunt says; “We offer a free service to the public but if they ask how they can support us, we ask them to make a donation to Angel Flight, with a tin set up at our booth.”

Angel Flight is a charity that coordinates free non-emergency flights to assist people in rural areas, in accessing medical treatment, not available to them due to vast distance and high travel costs. Angel Flight has been operating for 20 years and coordinated over 54,000 flights.

Angel Flight CEO Marjorie Pagani thanks JPs of Morayfield for their support saying; “Angel Flight receives no government funding and is only able to provide this much needed service due to generous donations from the community and thoughtful organisations such as this one.”

“We are very grateful for their ongoing support and that of our volunteer drivers and pilots.”
